Crash Data Recorders

Crash Data Recorders (CDR) or Electronic Control Modules (ECM)

Our mechanical engineers and accident reconstructionists download crash data from passenger and commercial vehicles.  Investing in acquiring the imaged crash data could prove extremely valuable.  The electronic control module, crash data recorder, or what some refer to as the “Black Box,” record speed, braking, and acceleration.  The information that crash data recorders image is slightly different from vehicle to vehicle.  Depending on the make and model, recorded data may vary.  For instance, some record data such as vehicle occupancy while others do not.  The term imaged indicates that the data is presented in an image, or picture, form.   This format prevents data from being manipulated.  Considering the relatively low cost of this type of service, downloading imaged data may generate a great return on investment down the road.

Infotainment Systems

Our engineers may also download infotainment data utilizing the Berla tool.  Depending on the vehicle, the infotainment systems may store data such as call logs, SMS messages, emails, information as to whether lights were on or off, and navigation history when a person’s smart phone is tethered to the vehicle by Bluetooth or USB.  This information can be helpful when investigating accidents, thefts, and vehicle occupancy confirmation. To find out what information may be available on a particular vehicle, visit the Vehicle Lookup page on the Berla website.
