We are pleased to announce that Reece Otsuka, P.E. has joined the U.S. Forensic team and will be based in Chicago. Mr. Otsuka earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, and his Master of Science in Structural Engineering Degree from the University of Illinois. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Illinois.
Background
Mr. Otsuka’s experience includes steel design and analysis, concrete design and analysis, seismic design, and building codes. He designed modifications for multiple utility companies including Exelon, Entergy, and American Electric Power (AEP). He has performed structural design and analysis of numerous structural components including concrete slabs, steel framing, piping and conduit supports, and floor and wall systems. He has designed structures and components to support seismic activity including pipe supports and support stands for electrical components; performed seismic analysis of equipment mounting; and analyzed the underlying concrete slab and structural steel. Mr. Otsuka has also designed framing for block walls to ensure that a large section could be safely removed without adverse impact to the main structure.
Structural Damage Assessments
Mr. Otsuka will conduct forensic engineering evaluations to determine the cause and extent of structural damage and whether the damage is sudden or long-term. His damage assessments will identify construction defects, storm damage, vibration damage, foundation failures, moisture intrusion, and material defects in residential and commercial structures.
