We are pleased to announce that Stephen R. O’Flynn O’Brien, P.E., has joined the U.S. Forensic team in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mr. O’Flynn O’Brien obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina.
Mechanical Engineering Experience
Prior to joining U.S. Forensic, Mr. O’Flynn O’Brien worked as an applications and design engineer in the nuclear power and pumping industries. His experience includes designing fire protection, heat & ventilation, potable water, refrigeration systems, and hydraulics systems. He engineered safety related components for the commercial nuclear industry. As a mechanical engineer, he performed evaluations of safety related components and their function within a system, determining potential failure modes, then developing and executing a testing process to provide assurance that the component will function properly once installed.
Mr. O’Flynn O’Brien has evaluated materials and components in engineering laboratories utilizing various lab equipment including ovens, Instron, SEM, XRF, chemical FTIR, and oscilloscopes. He also has experience with metal fabrication including welding MIG and TIG, mill and lathe experience, powder coating, and and light duty fabrication. As a hobby, he enjoys rebuilding and restoring classic ATVs and motorcycles.

Mr. O’Flynn O’Brien joins an exceptional team of Carolina experts. His mechanical evaluations of various equipment, appliances, and components will be a compliment to our structural, automotive, accident reconstruction, and environmental experts providing services throughout the area.
Our mechanical experts evaluate residential and commercial building mechanical systems, industrial, farm, and construction equipment. They determine if a failure or fire was the result of a manufacturing defect, improper service or repair, lack of maintenance, or operator error. Our mechanical experts evaluate residential equipment and appliances such as water heaters, HVAC systems, and smart home systems.
