Mr. McKinnie has a Masters of Science degree in Civil (Structural) Engineering from Florida State University and is a registered professional engineer in Florida. He is experienced in performing forensic investigations of damaged buildings, structural inspections of various under-construction and existing commercial and residential structures, threshold inspections, and evaluations of buildings for use as multi-hazard emergency shelters. Some of the types of structures Mr. McKinnie has evaluated include schools, multi-story commercial buildings, multi-story residential buildings, aerial water pipe crossings, and underwater wood piles. Some of the types of damage he has evaluated include age-related deterioration, fungal and termite deterioration, foundation movement, water intrusion, localized flooding, fire damage, and wind damage. Mr. McKinnie is knowledgeable of FEMA’s Flood Insurance Rate Maps, and NOAA’s storm surge SLOSH software. He is also experienced in materials testing including wind-borne debris impact, soils, and concrete.
Mr. Mckinnie also has experience in structural design of new structures and retrofits of existing structures including schools, churches, multi-story residential structures, multi-story office buildings, multi-story military barracks, amphitheater-pavilion, metal building system foundations, theaters, mall, hospitals, sanitary structures, concrete weir, and military munitions storage facility. Types of loads he has designed for include gravity, wind, seismic, soil, water, wave, snow, rain, and explosives blast using a wide variety of building materials.
Mr. McKinnie is also experienced in commercial and residential construction and roofing, bridge design and load rating, statistical modeling, and FEMA design manual editing. He has also taught continuing education classes for building contractors which included “Indoor Environmental Quality”.
