Structural Evaluations

U.S. Forensic experts that provide structural evaluations are licensed professional engineers (P.E.s).  Many are members of various professional organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the National Academy of Forensic Engineers (NAFE). We provide forensic structural engineering services which include inspecting damage caused by:

  • wind
  • hail
  • hurricanes
  • tornadoes
  • floods
  • fires
  • construction or design defects
  • soil subsidence
  • long term neglect

Our areas of expertise include residential and commercial roofing, foundations, building envelopes, water intrusion, construction defect evaluations, and storm damage evaluations.

Forensic Structural Engineering

Cause and Extent of Damages

Our forensic engineers evaluate residential and commercial properties to determine the cause of damages.   They identify is the damage is a result of a construction defect, material failure, lack of maintenance or third party contribution.  Once assessed, our experts will provide a report that outlines the extent of damages and if warranted, method of repair.

Sudden or Accidental vs. Long Term

Our structural engineers evaluate a building to determine whether the damage is associated with a recent versus a long term source.  Their findings will also address whether evidence supports that the cause of damage is intentional, accidental, or enhanced.

forensic structural engineeringConstruction Defect

Our forensic structural engineers determine deficiencies in the design or construction of a building or structure.  Our experts can also determine if the deficiencies contributed to a failure or damage.  We determine if damage is a result of:

  • Poorly designed foundation or roof system
  • Insufficient ventilation
  • Lack of proper moisture barriers
  • Improper flooring or window installation
  • Incorrect material application
  • Deficient design leading to collapse
  • Non-compliance with building codes and standards
