Details the inspection process and focuses on how moisture affects both construction materials and mechanical systems. Real world examples will also be presented in a case study format.

Crawling the Crawlspace

Approved for 1 hour in the following states: FL, GA, LA, NC, TX

Overview
Provides instruction on how to perform a proper inspection of a crawlspace, safety precautions and equipment necessary, building codes associated with crawlspace inspections, common origins of damage found in a crawlspace.

Duration of Loss/Water Loss

Approved for 1 hour in the following state: FL

Overview
Provides a brief overview of the science of wood decay. Explains the decay process and addresses the necessary ingredients and the optimum conditions for wood decay to develop. Examines the minimum timeframe required for decomposition to begin and provides visual results of our short-duration moisture exposure tests.

Engineering in the Aftermath

Approved for 1 hour in the following state: FL

Overview
Provides practical information for adjusters to understand the multiple forensic tools that engineers employ in the field. In the aftermath of catastrophic storms, the combined application of weather data, engineering analysis, and inspections by forensic engineers during varied losses will be addressed.

Flood Damages – Structural

Approved for 1 hour in the following states: FL, LA, NC, TX

Overview
Addresses the definition of flood and the various forces associated with flooding events. The focus of the seminar is to explain the causes of residential foundation failures, as well as methods of determining the age and extent of damages to a structure as a result of a flooding event.

Flooring Performance & Tile Floors

Approved for 2 hours in the following state: FL

Overview
Discusses flooring performance related to tile flooring, the installation process, TCNA (Tile Council of America) guidelines and tile failures. Several case studies are also included to show a variety of different flooring claims.

Foundation Failures

Approved for 1 hour in the Following States: FL, GA, LA, NC, TX

Overview
An overview of residential foundations from design through failure including engineering, construction, materials, causes of residential foundation failures, and methods of determining the age and extent of damages.

Intro to Fire Investigations

Approved for 1 hour in the Following State: NC

Overview
Provides an overview of the fire investigation process to determine where and how a fire originated. It addresses fire characteristics, guidelines used in fire investigations, investigation methods used to identify forensic evidence at fire scenes, and the potential causes of fire.

HVAC Failures & Water Losses

Approved for 1 hour in the Following State: FL

Overview
Florida has a climate with high average dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures which requires HVAC systems to operate constantly. As such, insurance adjusters routinely encounter property damage due to HVAC systems and mechanical failures. This course will focus on proper HVAC system operation and mechanical failures that result in water releases.

Lightning Strikes & HVAC Failures

Approved for 1 hour in the following states: FL, GA, LA, NC, TX

Overview
Discusses lightning components, the distance and frequency lightning can travel, and how lightning damage effects mechanical components, specifically HVAC systems and addresses HVAC damage/failure due to lightning strikes, the investigation methods, intuitive disassembly and verification of results.

Moisture Intrusion

Approved for 1 hour in the following states: GA, LA, NC, TX

Overview
Provides an overview of moisture as it interacts in and around the home/building, explains the causes of moisture intrusion as well as methods of determining the age and extent of damages, and addresses water characteristics, construction materials related to moisture prevention, and investigation methods used to identify moisture intrusion problems and damages.

North Carolina Asbestos Hazard Management Requirements

Approved for 1 hour in the following states: NC

Overview

Provides information on asbestos including its history, why it is used, and health risks.  This class will explain the uses of asbestos and common materials that contain asbestos. The class will explain the different types of health conditions that have been linked to asbestos.  It will present how asbestos is regulated and how it fits into the claims process.  The presentation will explore when asbestos abatement is necessary, and it will provide guidance on working with contractors during the abatement process.

North Carolina Lead Based Paint

Approved for 1 hour in the following states: NC

Overview

Provides information on lead based paints including its history, why it was used, and health risks.  This class will explain the common places where lead based paint can be found. The class will explain the different types of health conditions that have been linked to lead based paint.  It will present how lead based paint is regulated and how it fits into the claims process.  The presentation will explore when lead abatement is necessary, and it will provide guidance on working with contractors during the abatement process.

Premises Liability – The Responsibility of the Property Owner & the Role of the Forensic Engineer

Approved for 1 hour in the following states: LA, FL

Overview
Provides an overview of potential hazards and evidenced required in premises liability cases. It also outlines the duties and responsibilities of the property owner. Finally, it discusses the role of the forensic engineers as it relates to premises liability cases.

Roof Damages

Approved for 2 hours in the following states: GA, LA, NC, TX

Overview
An overview of residential roofing systems, and construction materials. It addresses wind effects on roofs, hail damage, structural damage, and various construction, installation defects, causes of roof failures, as well as methods of determining the age and extent of damages to a roof.

Roof Damages, Defects, & Hail Impacts

Approved for 1 hour in the following states: FL

Overview
The seminar provides an overview of residential and commercial roofing system construction and design, roofing materials and environmental damage to roofs. The presentation will address structural damage, hail damage, and roof system construction defects. It will also educate the participant in identifying the difference between mechanical damage, wind damage and hail damage.

Roof Damage & Suspicious Claims

Approved for 1 hour in the following states: GA, LA, FL

Overview
Provides a brief overview of roof design, materials, and construction. Educates participants on how to identify damage created by wind, hail, material/construction defects, and damage characterized as suspicious or created by mechanical means.

Roof Damages & The Florida Building Code

Approved for 2 hours in the following state: FL

Overview
Provides an overview of residential roofing systems, construction and design of roofs, roofing materials and damages to roofs and addresses wind effects on roofs, hail damage, structural damage and various construction and installation defects as they pertain to roof systems. Its focus is to explain the causes of residential roof failures, as well as methods of determining the age and extent of damages to a roof.

Water Duration:  Cabinet Testing

Approved for 1 hour in the following state: FL

Overview
Provides an overview of water losses and their effects on cabinetry. The seminar provides an explanation of the data gained from a scientific research study into the impact of water when introduced to cabinetry. A discussion of the data, correlations and how to practically apply the knowledge in the field will be presented during the course. Participants will learn methods that will assist in the speedy adjustment of related claims for their policyholders.

Smart Homes & Lightning

Approved for 1 hour in the following states: LA, TX

Overview
Provides an overview of how smart homes work, the surge risk associated with smart homes, and options available to better protect the home. It also provides the claims professional with information needed to accurately and thoroughly assess the claim.

Product Liability:  Plumbing Failures

Approved for 1 hour in the following states: LA, TX, GA, FL

Overview
Provides information on manufacturing defects vs installation errors related to plumbing components.  Discusses findings of laboratory analysis on particular types of components such as water heater and toilet connectors as well as sprinkler heads and fittings.
